Equinox joins us from across the Pond!

November 15, 2012, by NicoSarti

On Tuesday 23rd October, Mission hosted an exclusive party to launch the opening of the first Equinox fitness club outside of the U.S. Considered to be more of a private members club, Equinox caters to a host of celebrity clientele and leaders of business, art and fashion.

Situated in the Kensington Roof Garden complex, the members-only club is uniquely designed to provide unprecedented hospitality, innovative programming and impeccable attention to detail. Equinox fitness clubs are renowned for offering first class facilities including the best trainers and equipment coupled with a luxuriously designed workout space.

The imagery and styling of the club space draws on the famous 1970’s fashion brand Biba, which was an iconic London store and occupied the same Kensington space in its heyday. Established by Barbara Hulanicki, the BIBA dining area, titled ‘The Rainbow Room’, was a common hang out spot for Twiggy, David Bowie, Rolling Stones and the New York Dolls. To keep the authenticity of the space alive, the original lighting has been preserved.

As well as the impressive lighting, beyond the reception area sits a juice bar, sofas, free Wi-Fi and Mac terminals, a staircase leading to the sunny yoga studio with floor-to-ceiling windows, and a spa, offering everything from massage to laser hair removal. Alongside the top of the range gym equipment, there are small fridges around the club containing eucalyptus-soaked cold towels. The locker rooms contain luxurious Kiehl’s bathroom products and have under floor heating.

The launch party proved an incredible success with appearances from Minnie Driver, Julien McDonald, Georgie Thompson, Heidi Range and Tallulah Harlech. The highlight of the evening was a live set from Alice Dellal accompanied by an array of slick and toned graphite painted models. Guests were treated to Belvedere’s new range of ‘Better Cocktails’, designed to contain fewer calories than other cocktails. Mission’s favourite was the:

Belvedere Hawthorn Tonic (Calorie Total: 152)

35ml Belvedere

20ml Freshly juiced beetroot

40ml Fresh pomegranate juice

10ml Fresh lemon juice

10ml Spiced Hawthorn Syrup

Sprig Fresh thyme

Garnish Thyme & lemon zest

Glass Coupe/Martini

Yum.
