Enough with the moaning. Enough with the carping and enough with the cynicism.
Because we don’t care.
We really, really don’t.
And Mitt Romney, how dare you.
For the next three weeks London is the centre of the world. We are going to put aside our ingrained scepticism and raise our voices in chorus with other Londoners to cheer, scream and yell in raucous celebration.
Because the thing is, we are deeply proud of London and what we have achieved.
It is a really strange feeling because we are taught by painful experience not to be proud about anything. It is the default attitude of Londoners who have done it all and seen it all before.
London 2012 won’t be as expensive as Beijing and it won’t be as polished as Barcelona or Sydney. And there will probably be a few embarrassing moments along the way. But you know what? It won’t matter a jot.
These are our Olympics and they will be Great.
